Maria Schutz stands in Munich’s Pasing district as a Catholic parish church designed by Hans Schurr. Its neo-Romanesque architecture gives the building a strong historical presence.

The basilica has three naves, transept arms, and matching window rosettes recalling St Benno’s double-tower façade. A sixty-metre tower marks the church’s exterior. Construction began with the foundation stone in 1905, and the building was structurally complete the following year. Its interior gained a coherent artistic programme through Michael Weingartner’s restoration.

Weingartner’s frescoes trace Christ’s story from the Annunciation through the Resurrection, with scenes of baptism and the Second Coming. A monumental Madonna dominates the interior beneath a Bavarian royal crown. The crown identifies the figure as Patrona Bavariae, the patron saint of Bavaria. Sculptures from the original construction include works by Max Heilmaier and Hans Miller.

The organ by Hermann Eule Orgelbau Bautzen has forty-seven registers. Grüninger cast the church bells, while Christian Winker created figures for its large nativity scene. Maria Schutz is wheelchair accessible for visitors exploring this Pasing landmark.
