Natur-Informationszentrum Bergwelt Karwendel stands at the Karwendelbahn mountain station above Mittenwald, Germany, at 2,244 metres. Its telescope-shaped building projects seven metres beyond the cliff, with a direct view into the Isar valley, 1,300 metres below.

Inside, changing exhibitions, films, photographs, and displays explore plants, animals, people, and culture in the high mountains. The surrounding Karwendel forms the largest continuous nature reserve in the Eastern Alps, home to eagles, marmots, chamois, rare alpine plants, and around 800 butterfly species. Educational programmes, guided tours, and a media room explain these habitats, while the nearby Karwendelgrube reveals the meeting point of civilisation and wild nature.

An eight-metre-wide panoramic window looks towards Mittenwald on one side and the Karwendelgrube, about 30 metres away, on the other. At the rear, you may spot alpine ptarmigans whose seasonal plumage helps them blend into the high-altitude landscape.
