Parco Nicolò Savarino spreads across more than 31,600 square metres in Milan, combining mature trees, open paths, and leisure spaces. Red brick walls preserve the grounds of the former Ospedale Bassi. American maples, tulip trees, and hackberries shape the landscape, including two prominent trees beside the play area.

The site began as an infectious disease hospital built after Milan’s smallpox epidemic of 1833, and served the city until the 1970s. The park commemorates Nicolò Savarino, a local police officer killed in the line of duty in January 2012. A soccer field, grassy amphitheatre, playgrounds, and dog areas support different kinds of recreation. A zip line adds movement for older children, while a dedicated circuit of about 700 metres suits jogging and cycling.

The quieter northern section shelters owls, swallows, and redstarts, creating a useful setting for birdwatching. Villa Hanau borders the grounds, while nearby Cascina Boscaiola recalls Milan’s older rural and aristocratic landscape.
