Palazzo Visconti di Modrone stands on Via Cino del Duca at number eight in Milan as an example of Milanese Rococo architecture. The palace is also called Palazzo Visconti di Grazzano or Palazzo Bolagnos. Giuseppe Bolagnos transforms several existing buildings, including his wife Isabella Boselli’s dowry house, into a grand residence. The palace’s architect remains unknown in the recorded history. By the seventeenth century, the residence gains recognition for interiors more elaborate than those of typical Milanese homes. Giuseppe Viani later expands and embellishes the property. The Visconti di Modrone family adds crests to the palace’s decoration. Painter Filiberto Sbardella contributes the Primavera composition during later interventions and restorations. Bombing during the Second World War damages the palace, while post-war restoration reflects Milan’s real-estate speculation. The facade presents three floors and an irregular balcony above the main door. Windows carry varied mistilinear pediments, and the noble floor contains a ballroom with eighteenth-century frescoes by Nicola Bertucci.
