Palazzo dei Giureconsulti stands in the heart of Milan as a historic example of Mannerist architecture. Architect Vincenzo Seregni designed the building in the Mannerist style. Commissioned by Pope Pius IV, construction began in 1562 and incorporated parts of an earlier structure. Those earlier remains included the existing tower.

Its three-part facade rises above an arcade supported by double columns, with rustication, pilasters, and sculptures. The portico sits slightly above the square. The tower, known as Zavattario, received a bell from a mayor and served as both clock and fire lookout. Later, the building changed from education to commerce. In the nineteenth century, it housed the Milan Stock Exchange and later the Chamber of Commerce.

Bombing during the Second World War caused significant damage, but Milan restored it among the first buildings after the war. The 1980s restoration added conference facilities and exhibition spaces. Its modern use includes fashion shows, cultural events, and business meetings within the historic setting. The tower’s name recalls the mayor who donated its bell.
