Palazzo Casati Stampa di Soncino stands on Via Soncino in Milan’s historic centre, presenting a noble palace with medieval origins. Its southeast corner preserves remnants of a medieval tower house. The surviving structure rises several metres above neighbouring buildings, keeping the older fabric distinct within the palace’s architecture. Architect Cristoforo Lombardo reshaped the palace for Massimiliano Stampa. His design placed an open courtyard on the western side of the principal building, giving the complex a clear internal centre. A monumental tower gives the palace its strongest vertical feature. The tower carries elements associated with the personal coat of arms of Emperor Charles the Fifth. Massimiliano Stampa commissioned this major transformation for his family. The building expressed the family’s prestige and pro-imperial allegiance through its scale, position, and symbolic architectural details. Via Soncino places the palace within Milan’s historic centre.
