Palazzo Aliverti, also known as Palazzo Legance, is a sixteenth-century palace in Milan with a distinctive architectural presence. Its history includes several transformations after construction. Its facade opens onto large ground-floor openings framed by stone and rustic masonry. Inside, the courtyard presents two orders of columns, pairing sturdy Doric forms with more ornate Ionic details. Coffered ceilings use recessed panels across the palace interiors. Frescoes on the walls depict architectural motifs throughout the interior. Palazzo Aliverti belonged to the Porta Comasina district and hosted institutions including Mediocredito Regionale Lombardo and the Gucci group. Ferdinando Reggiori directed a major renovation of the palace. That work restored and relocated frescoes attributed to Giulio, Antonio, and Vincenzo Campi. Local artists Ambrogio da Ello and Gian Pietro Alfieri created a coffered ceiling for the building. A coffered ceiling removed from Palazzo Aliverti forms part of the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore. These architectural details connect the palace’s courtyard, facade, ceilings, and frescoes with Milan’s recorded history.
