Giardino Aristide Calderini is a picturesque garden in Milan, beside the Archaeological Museum and tucked among the city’s busy streets. Its paths lead you towards a colonnade ruin, several statues, and a quiet green setting.

The remains belong to a fifteenth-century palace that may have been designed by Bramante. The Corio family once owned the palace and shared ties with Milan’s Visconti dynasty. Bernardino Corio came from that family and recorded Ludovico il Moro’s final years and Milan’s loss of independence during French expansion. Bombing during the Second World War destroyed much of the building, leaving the entrance portico, columns, and statues.

Arnaldo Pomodoro’s sculpture adds a twentieth-century presence to the historic garden. Erected in 1996, the monument commemorates a young boy who spent happy moments here before dying in a road accident.
