Since 1974, the building has housed Museo Civico Studio Francesco Messina, combining civic museum use with an artist’s former workplace. Sicilian artist Francesco Messina made Milan his home and worked here for several years. Around eighty sculptures use plaster, terracotta, bronze, and wax as their principal materials. About thirty graphic works include lithographs, pastels, watercolours, and pencil drawings.

The church and nearby structures survived the heavy bombing that struck this part of Milan in 1943. That survival gives the Carrobbio setting a tangible link to the city’s wartime history. Parked cars often fill the piazzetta, placing an everyday urban detail beside the old walls. Here, sculpture, paper, and Baroque architecture share the same compact setting.
