Chiesa di San Pietro Celestino stands on Via Senato in Milan and belongs to the city’s architectural heritage. Its history reaches back to the Middle Ages. The building took much of its present form through a major reconstruction in the eighteenth century. Marco Bianchi designed the Baroque façade in the seventeenth century. The façade combines ornate Baroque forms with reconstructed concrete details. Weather damage later led to reconstruction using concrete moulds, which preserved the façade’s intricate details. Inside, the church presents a rectangular plan, a single nave, and a barrel-vaulted ceiling. Corinthian pilasters line both sides of the nave. Chapels occupy both sides, with alternating arch heights shaping the interior rhythm. The church also contains the tomb of Gaspare Aselli, a surgeon and anatomy professor. Its origins lie in a thirteenth-century hospice. Religious communities used the building across later centuries, giving its history a layered character. Milan’s Chiesa di San Pietro Celestino brings together medieval origins, Baroque design, and a carefully reconstructed façade.
