Agorà, also known as PalaAgorà, is Milan’s largest ice rink and a venue for hockey, figure skating and recreation. The facility gives Milan a dedicated place for ice sports. Renato Massa and Rosa Bianca Selvaggio created Agorà after athletes travelled to Bergamo and Varese for training. Their children’s interest in ice sports helped inspire the project. A formal agreement signed in 1987 preceded construction, and Agorà opened in September 1989. The venue accommodates up to 4,000 spectators. Hockey Milano Bears Rossoblu use Agorà as their home ground, while HC Varese sometimes uses it when its usual venue is unavailable. The rink also hosts singles, pairs and synchronised skating. The programme includes hockey matches and public recreational sessions on the same ice. Public skating brings a different pace to the venue. Before Agorà existed, athletes travelled to Bergamo and Varese because Milan lacked a suitable ice sports facility. The venue grew from a local need. Renato Massa and Rosa Bianca Selvaggio turned that need into a facility for Milan’s teams, skaters and spectators. Agorà carries that purpose through its history.
