Tragos - Tragediens födelse is a monumental theatre fountain by Nils A. G. Sjögren in Sweden. A six-metre bronze ring crowns the composition. Sjögren develops the fountain from childhood memories of theatre advertising pillars, turning a poster into a living performance. He wins the design competition for the work. He completes the plaster model, but dies before the bronze casting and formal unveiling. Water and light shape the fountain’s theatrical scene. The ring also accommodates flame and illumination for premiere evenings, extending the sculpture beyond its bronze structure. People meet and take photographs beside the fountain. Actors use the figures as a backdrop, while children climb the edges. From close by, the water and gestures connect separate stories within one vertical composition. Tragos turns theatre history into a walk-around sculpture.
