The Dativius-Victor-Bogen in Mainz is a reconstructed Roman monument from the third century. It originally belonged to a public building’s portico in Mogontiacum. Dativius Victor’s sons erected the arch in his honour, dedicating it to the imperial house and Jupiter. Its preserved inscription records that dedication across sandstone blocks. Rich reliefs show vine branches, a zodiac, sacrificial scenes, and Dativius Victor performing a priestly office. Jupiter and Juno appear on the keystone. The structure resembles a triumphal arch, yet its original setting formed part of a larger architectural complex. Recovered elements once served as spolia in Mainz’s medieval wall. Reconstruction presents the monument in the stone hall of Landesmuseum Mainz, while a full-scale copy stands at Ernst-Ludwig-Platz. Its sandstone structure uses no mortar between its blocks.
