Apollo Theatre stands on Shaftesbury Avenue in London’s West End, among venues known collectively as Theatreland.

Its Grade II listing recognises special architectural and historic interest. Opened on 21 February 1901, it became London’s first theatre built during the Edwardian era. This building is Lewin Sharp’s only complete theatre design still standing.

Built for musical entertainment, the venue began with The Belle of Bohemia, an American musical comedy. Its stages later held musicals, comedies, dramas and award-winning plays. Notable productions included Rain Man, Jerusalem with Mark Rylance, and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. Everybody’s Talking About Jamie premiered here in the West End. In 2005, Nica Burns and Max Weitzenhoffer acquired the theatre, bringing it into the Nimax Theatres group. The auditorium has four distinct named seating sections. A scene from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I was filmed around the corner.
