Ellipse in 10 Teilen stands on the lawn before Linz’s rounded Brucknerhaus, a festival and congress centre. David Rabinowitch created this metal sculpture between 1974 and 1977.

Ten elements form an ellipse, echoing the building’s curved architecture and changing as you walk around them. The arrangement keeps individual parts and one complete form visible at the same time. Rabinowitch made the work for Forum Metall, Linz’s open-air collection of large-scale metal sculptures. Austrian factories produced the collection’s works, connecting abstract art with the city’s industrial character.

Forum Metall opened in 1977 as Austria’s first open-air museum of its kind. Its freely accessible setting places iron, steel and aluminium works directly within public space. Here, the ten metal sections invite you to compare distance, shape and the surrounding lawn.
