Petershof stands on Petersstraße in Leipzig as a building complex shaped by trade fairs, cinema, retail, offices and homes. Architect Alfred Liebig designed the complex for trade fairs.

Its steel-frame construction, travertine facade and projecting window frames express the modern architecture of its original period. Figures crown the facade above the ground floor.

Each figure represents an art or profession and bears the face of a person linked with Petershof’s creation. Symbols identify music, craft, commerce, law, trade-fair management, architecture and industry.

The building also preserves a light hall and a round staircase decorated with Siegersdorf ceramics. Its former Capitol cinema occupied the basement and ground floor, while the preserved ticket booth now serves as a café.

An inn called Haus zum Engel once stood here. Porcelain maker Johann Friedrich Böttger displayed samples there, and poet Friedrich Schiller later stayed at the site.

After wartime damage, restoration and later rebuilding, Petershof retained parts of Liebig’s design while gaining new commercial and residential uses. Travertine, statues and surviving interiors reveal Leipzig’s layered architectural history.

The complex is recorded as wheelchair accessible.
