Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig is one of Germany’s oldest art schools, founded in 1764.  
The academy occupies an Italian Neo-Renaissance building completed in 1896.

Its workshops cover painting, printmaking, photography, media art, book design, letterpress, lithography and artistic offset printing.  
A gallery and specialist library support exhibitions, research and artistic study.

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe studied painting here, while Max Klinger later joined its teaching staff.  
The academy admitted female students in 1905.

Its history includes the creation of an artistic photography department in 1893 and the development of Leipzig’s influential art movements.  
Students helped establish the Leipzig School in the 1970s.

The institution is associated with the Leipzig School and New Leipzig School, including artists such as Neo Rauch and Wolfgang Mattheuer.  
Its programmes span fine art and design.

Students can pursue the Diplom, the Master of Arts in Cultures of the Curatorial, or postgraduate artistic development.  
The academy also runs the Academy for Transcultural Exchange.

This programme provides art and design education for people with refugee backgrounds, while the building offers barrier-free access.
