Parroquia San Augustín, Santuario Santa Rita presents a monumental bronze retablo behind the main altar, designed by Luis Arencibia Betancort. It measures nine metres high and six metres wide.

Cast in separate sections, the relief was welded together and installed in March 2005. Its central image joins Christ’s cross with the tree of life.

A river of living water rises from the roots, while the Lamb’s banquet fills the upper scene. Bread, chalice, lamb, and gathered community define the Eucharistic table.

Cultivated plants and island fauna connect the liturgical imagery with the surrounding creation. Beneath the reredos, Saint Monica teaches Augustine.

The sculpted scene also recalls Augustine’s conversion, preserved within the parish’s visual memory. A baptismal book dated 1498 records the community’s long worship tradition.

The present building developed from a sixteenth-century hermitage and Augustinian convent, with its first stone laid in 1786. The church became the matriz parish on 15 September 1852.
