Heilige Dreifaltigkeit stands in Germany a few metres from the beach promenade, pier and marina. An eighteen-metre tower rises above three bells. Its village-church plan breaks roofs and walls into interlocking, slanted and triangular surfaces. Sharp planes give the building a ship-like and tent-like silhouette.

Carsten Gieseke and Nicolaus Wöhlk designed and supervised construction after the foundation stone was laid in 1999. The stone bears the Latin inscription gloria patri et filio et spiritui sancto. Construction finished in June 2000, and Auxiliary Bishop Norbert Werbs consecrated the church on 23 July 2000. Inside, a tent-like refuge provides 270 seats, including the organ gallery. A sliding wall adds 60 places in the adjoining community hall. The Catholic parish formed after the Second World War, when displaced people worshipped in a former hotel dance hall.

Two apartments and a youth room extend the building beyond its worship space. Look up at the foundation stone, then notice how the angled surfaces turn shelter into movement.
