St. Martin stands in Kreuzthal, Germany, where the Kreuzbach and Eschach rivers meet. Its wooden body, stone choir, and shingled exterior give the building a distinctive profile. A roughly one-metre stone base supports the structure, which measures thirty metres long. With its extensions, the building reaches nineteen metres in width, while the nave rises twelve metres.

Local families sought a chapel in 1709 because Wiggensbach and Rohrdorf lay too far away. A first chapel stood here by 1717, when Kreuzthal also gained its own parish. Population growth brought a larger building in 1746, supported by local help and donations from neighbouring communities. Its interior gradually received quality furnishings, replacing temporary pieces intended for other churches.

The main body makes this Bavaria’s only wooden church, combining timber with solid masonry. In 1783, an Eisenbach glassworks master donated two relics, including a piece of Saint Martin’s cloak. A large procession carried them to Kreuzthal, drawing many people from the surrounding area. Between 2012 and 2014, restored wooden shingles returned the exterior to its earlier appearance. The nineteen-metre tower completes a striking landmark where timber, masonry, and parish history meet.
