The Max-Planck-Denkmal in Kiel is a memorial to physicist and Nobel laureate Max Planck. A granite stone bears his relief portrait and an inscription. The monument commemorates Planck’s scientific work and his connection with Kiel, where he was born and later taught physics. His father taught at the University of Kiel. After completing his habilitation, Planck returned to Kiel to teach at the university before accepting a professorship in Berlin. The university later named him an honorary senator. Unveiled to mark the centenary of Planck’s birth, it links a physical place with the history of theoretical physics. Kiel’s scientific and academic heritage appears in this stone.
