Sultan III. Mehmet Türbesi stands in Istanbul as a mausoleum associated with Ottoman architecture and history. Architect Dalgıç Ahmet Ağa designed the building.

Its octagonal plan forms the structure’s main shape, with a central dome resting directly on the walls. The entrance shows Baroque influence from later alterations.

The mausoleum was completed in the early seventeenth century, around 1608 to 1609. Its form reflects classical Ottoman building practice.

Inside, İznik tiles cover the tomb with vivid floral patterns and detailed decorative work. The interior combines colour, geometry and ornament.

The mausoleum contains Sultan III Mehmet’s remains and those of several Ottoman dynasty members. Handan Sultan is commemorated there.

The interior also features golden calligraphy with Islamic names and Quranic verses. These inscriptions add a religious focus to the tiled space.

Outside, an arched portico marks the entrance and frames the mausoleum’s façade. Decorative details appear on its columns and walls.

Those exterior elements show that the portico changed over time. Together, the dome, tiles, arches and inscriptions define the monument.
