Sultan Ahmet Türbesi is a mausoleum in Istanbul, within the complex of the Blue Mosque. Sultan Ahmed I and Ottoman dignitaries are buried here.

Architect Sedefkar Mehmed Agha designed the building, which was completed in the early seventeenth century. Its square plan supports a prominent domed roof.

A three-part portico marks the entrance, while marble covers the mausoleum’s facade. Ottoman tiles bring colour and intricate patterns to the interior and exterior walls.

Inside, the tombs stand in an orderly arrangement beneath stained glass windows. Their coloured light gives the chamber a quiet character.

Sultan Ahmet Türbesi presents classical Ottoman architecture through its structure, materials and decoration. The mausoleum also functions as a museum connected with Ottoman history.
