Pindarplatz is a viewpoint on a rocky ledge above the Alpsee, near Hohenschwangau Castle. The platform rises about thirty metres above the lake. Forested hills surround the water, while Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein appear across the landscape. Steps from a short side path lead up from the circular lakeside trail.

King Maximilian II developed and secured the viewpoint after discovering this elevated place above the Alpsee. He connected it with Pindar, the ancient Greek poet. As a child, Maximilian read Pindar’s original works with classical scholar Friedrich Wilhelm Thiersch. Thiersch visited Hohenschwangau in August 1839 and later described their walk in a letter. A pavilion once stood here, but the former parapluie has disappeared.

King Ludwig II brought Richard Wagner here in November 1865. Wagner recorded the peaceful, uplifting atmosphere in his diary. The viewpoint later appeared in an 1872 Baedeker guide and Friedrich Beck’s 1861 poetry. Routes around the Alpsee and Schwansee connect this rocky nose with lakeshores, wooden walkways, monuments, and bathing places.
