Zum Seppl is a historic student tavern in Heidelberg’s old town, housed in a two-storey baroque gabled building. Its recorded origins reach back to 1704 in Heidelberg. The house stands on an older stone-vaulted cellar and retains plastered half-timbering, flower boxes, and a carved neo-Gothic gable. A carved cross flower crowns the neo-Gothic gable. The former guesthouse also housed its own brewery, while deep cellar vaults hosted student gatherings associated with Corps Rhenania. Those vaults once reached about six metres underground. Inside, stained-glass windows display the coats of arms of five Heidelberg student corps, alongside portraits and collected signs. These historic stained-glass windows date from 1884. The signs recall student excursions, and the walls preserve a visual record of student-corporation life before the First World War. Today, the historic property functions as a hotel. The protected building and rustic interior connect architecture, brewing history, and Heidelberg’s student culture in one compact setting. The tavern now hosts private celebrations and events only.
