Johanneskirche stands in Heidelberg’s Neuenheim district as a neo-Gothic Protestant church designed by Hermann Behaghel.

The present church rose between 1899 and 1902. Its free-standing position at a road fork makes the facade visible from three sides. A 55-metre tower rises above the north-side main entrance. Behaghel shaped the building around a Greek-cross plan, with four equal arms and a separated southern room. The southern room serves confirmation classes beside the altar.

Inside, the Wiesbaden Programme places pulpit and baptismal font beside the altar, with the organ directly above it. Galleries circle the interior beneath the church’s preaching-focused arrangement. The surviving Sermon on the Mount image hangs above the altar, while renovation removed the rest of the original decoration. Music groups include Camerata Vocale, Figuralchor Heidelberg, and choirs for the church, children, and young people. Johanneskirche belongs to Johannesgemeinde Neuenheim and serves worship, concerts, and community events. Wheelchair accessibility is listed among the building’s properties.
