Bahnwasserturm rises in Heidelberg as a former railway water tower, with a square, brick-clad core. Its concrete base reaches the ground-floor windowsills. A tent-shaped roof crowns the thirty-metre tower, while two-storey wings extend east and west. Originally, four clock faces marked its middle level.

Construction began in 1925 for a railway depot that housed more than forty steam locomotives. The 333-cubic-metre concrete tank supplied locomotives and workshops with groundwater and spring water. Steam service ended in the 1970s, and workshops later moved into nearby buildings. Monument protection followed in 1989, while renovation finished in December 2015.

Offices, rehearsal rooms, conferences, exhibitions, and cultural events now occupy the former industrial building. KlangForum Heidelberg rehearses and presents contemporary music inside. Steel balconies, glass additions, a lift, and a central staircase make the modern intervention visible outside. The tank once stood twenty-seven metres above ground behind thirty-centimetre-thick concrete.
