Schloss Herrenhausen in Hanover was a summer residence of the House of Hanover and now anchors the Herrenhausen Gardens. The palace stands within a baroque garden complex.

A manor house formed the original building, while later plans introduced baroque and neoclassical architecture. The surviving exterior staircase recalls the earlier palace. World War II destroyed the palace, and Hanover later reconstructed the building beside its historic garden setting.

The restored site contains the Herrenhausen Palace Museum. Its exhibitions present baroque treasures, Hanoverian court culture, and the history of the surrounding gardens. An underground auditorium serves the palace congress centre. A ballroom overlooks the Great Garden, where formal planting and period garden buildings shape the landscape. The gardens also include an aquarium as a later addition.

Sophia of Hanover supervised the gardens, while French gardener Martin Charbonnier shaped the Great Garden after Versailles. Its broad layout reflects formal baroque garden design. King George II of Great Britain was born here, linking Schloss Herrenhausen with Hanoverian royal history. The site is wheelchair accessible for visitors.
