Pferdeturm stands in Hanover’s Kleefeld district as a medieval watchtower beside the Eilenriede forest. Its nearly square rubble-stone base measures about four metres on each side. Brick levels rise above the stonework, ending in a steep pointed roof and half-timbered upper floor.

Built in 1387, the tower formed part of the Hannoversche Landwehr, protecting medieval Hanover between Hanover and Misburg. Traffic watchers once used it as a toll station and defensive post. After its military role faded during the nineteenth century, the building served as a forestry office. A fire destroyed a nearby excursion restaurant in 1889, prompting renovations around the tower.

In 1892, a half-timbered upper floor and pointed roof gave the masonry tower its distinctive silhouette. The surrounding area later became a leisure destination with cycling and the nearby Eisstadion am Pferdeturm. Its lower walls reach 3.8 metres, revealing the rough rubble construction at close range.
