The Laveshaus in Hanover is a classicist residence designed and built by architect Georg Ludwig Friedrich Laves. Laves created the house for his own family.

Construction took place between 1822 and 1824, while Laves also worked as a city planner and civil engineer. The Laves family lived on the building’s third floor.

Lower levels included a Bel-Etage rented to Louis-Henri de Roger de Cahuzac and Sir Hugh Halkett. A smaller studio house later served Laves’s artist son, George.

Hanover acquired the property in 1908, and it became the city’s municipal health office. The building survived Second World War air raids intact.

Afterward, it housed Hanover’s tourist office and later accommodated Wilhelm Hahn junior, a former resistance fighter. The Architects’ Chamber of Lower Saxony acquired the property in 1996.

The renovated house became the chamber’s headquarters in 1998 and serves architectural culture in Lower Saxony. Its cubic form, rusticated ground floor, and Ionic columns define the exterior.

Inside, a marble-floored vestibule with freestanding columns connects living and working spaces. Canvas paintings from the late seventeenth century depict Greek and Roman mythology.
