Johannes-der-Täufer-Kirche stands in Hanover’s Wettbergen district as a simple east-west church built from plastered rubble stone. Strong slanted buttresses support the walls, while an octagonal roof turret with a curved hood crowns the western ridge.

First mentioned in 1477, the church burned in 1580 and rose again toward the end of the seventeenth century. Two coat-of-arms stones above the west door date from 1697 and 1702, while two small fifteenth-century bells remain inside. Around 1700, builders added a crypt beneath the western tower for members of the von Hansing and von Grone families, whose baroque coffins still mark the burial place.

The surrounding buildings extend the historic setting: a two-storey half-timbered parsonage from the mid-nineteenth century, a long former parsonage barn, and a half-timbered barn at An der Kirche 13. That barn carries the year 1839 on its gate beam, a small detail that fixes the agricultural past of the complex in the structure itself.
