St. Johannis Harvestehude is a neo-Gothic Protestant church in Hamburg’s Rotherbaum quarter, between Turmweg and Mittelweg. The nearby Außenalster adds water to the setting. Built between 1880 and 1882, the church follows designs selected from seven proposals by architect Wilhelm Hauers. Its main spire reaches 80 metres.

The interior forms a nearly complete neo-Gothic composition, including pews, chairs, lecterns, an organ case, terrazzo flooring and frescoes. The parish adopted the architectural guidelines of the Eisenacher Regulativ from 1861. Together, these elements preserve the character of a church shaped as a unified work of architecture.

A wood-carved, gold-plated altar by Hamburg sculptor Neuber presents three scenes of Jesus. Innsbruck stained-glass windows by Nazarene artists trace a biblical cycle from the Old Testament to the New Testament. The Marcussen organ now has three manuals, 49 registers and 3,494 pipes. Its spires become especially striking across Hamburg after dark.
