Otto-Stolten-Hof is a heritage-listed housing complex in Hamburg, completed in 1929 and designed by Friedrich Ostermeyer. Its red clinker facade identifies the complex within Jarrestadt. Fritz Schumacher guided the development of Jarrestadt, where an architectural competition sought a coherent urban design. Steel skeleton construction identifies the building method used here. The Allgemeine Deutsche Schiffszimmerer Genossenschaft built the complex as one of four cooperative housing projects. Ship carpenters founded that cooperative in 1875. The original housing design included central heating, hot water supplies, and shared laundry facilities for residents. Otto Stolten gave the complex its name. He served as Hamburg's first Social Democratic mayor between 1919 and 1925. World War II brought heavy damage to the buildings. Post-war reconstruction created smaller apartments to address Hamburg's housing shortage, changing the internal arrangement of the complex. Further renovation work followed at the complex in 1978. The Otto-Stolten-Hof remains an example of early twentieth-century urban housing within Hamburg's architectural history. Its red brickwork connects design, construction, and neighbourhood planning in one residential setting.
