Internationales Maritimes Museum Hamburg is a maritime museum in Hamburg’s HafenCity quarter, housed in the historic Kaispeicher B warehouse. The building shows neo-Gothic forms from the late nineteenth century. Kaispeicher B remains Hamburg’s oldest preserved warehouse and a listed cultural heritage site. Peter Tamm’s collection brings together model ships, maritime art, uniforms, and historical documents. It also holds photographs, marine research material, and records of naval history. A prehistoric dugout canoe offers one of the collection’s oldest links with seafaring. Original letters from Lord Horatio Nelson stand alongside the baton of Großadmiral Karl Dönitz. The James Caird appears as a reproduction, while cruise ship menus preserve another maritime record. Guided tours, a ship simulator, and educational programmes extend the museum’s work beyond display. The ancient dugout canoe brings distant seafaring history into the warehouse.
