Friedenskirche is a neo-Gothic church in Hamburg’s Eilbek district, designed by Johannes Otzen and built by Johannes Vollmer. It was consecrated in 1885, when Eilbek became a separate parish after centuries divided between St Georg and Hammer Church. Four transept gables still shape the exterior, while a small clock tower rises above its simplified forms.

Air raids in July 1943 destroyed the building, leaving a ruin until an inadequate renovation in 1954. A church council rejected demolition in 1959, and Hans Michaelsen led a brighter reconstruction in 1960. That work removed the remaining galleries, enlarged the organ gallery, and concealed the vault beneath a gypsum ceiling. A yellow brick wall hides the former interior walls, so no original stones remain visible inside. The 1960 altar, font and pulpit by Klaus-Jürgen Luckey use oak and bronze.

Harry MacLean’s 1960 stained-glass windows interpret peace, church festivals and eternity through biblical scenes. The nave windows show the parable of the fishing net, while the choir windows represent Christmas, Easter and Pentecost. An Alfred Führer organ contains three manuals, pedal, 35 stops and 2,506 pipes. Three steel bells from 1919 hang in an unusual frame suspended within the masonry.
