Christuskirche Hamm stands in Hamburg-Hamm as a protected Evangelical Methodist church from the late 1950s. Helmut Lubowski designed the building, whose sacred space rises about two metres above street level beside the Ludwig-Nippert-Heim. A 22-metre tower gives the post-war complex a clear vertical accent.

Construction ran from 1957 to 1958, replacing a church destroyed during the Second World War at Brekelbaumspark. The building became Hamburg’s largest Methodist church, and the 1968 unification conference helped shape the Evangelical Methodist Church in Northwest Germany. Its pipe organ arrived from the nearby Kapernaum Church in Horn in 2004, replacing a 1967 Ebner organ. Renovation in 2009 and 2010 added a glass rotunda entrance, converted the gallery into a multipurpose room and improved the building’s technology.

A lift has connected the church’s two levels since 2003, making the wheelchair-accessible building easier to experience. The former basement daycare centre disappeared in the 1970s, while community rooms remain below the sanctuary. The glass rotunda now marks the entrance, contrasting with the 22-metre tower and the church’s restrained late-1950s architecture.
