Chùa Một Cột, known in English as the One Pillar Pagoda, is a Buddhist temple in Hanoi’s Ba Đình district. The temple forms part of the Diên Hựu tự architectural complex.

Its Liên Hoa Đài shrine rises on one stone pillar, creating the shape of a lotus blossom. The wooden structure rests above that single pillar. A curved roof covers every side and displays two dragons facing the moon. The two dragons symbolise wisdom and vitality.

Historical records link the temple’s foundation to Emperor Lý Thái Tông and his dream of Avalokiteśvara. The dream featured Avalokiteśvara seated on a lotus. According to the recorded story, the emperor built the temple after the birth of his son. The complex hosted royal Vesak ceremonies during the Lý dynasty. Those ceremonies included bathing a Buddha image and releasing a bird by the monarch.

The pagoda underwent restoration after its destruction in 1954. It remains a cultural and religious symbol of Vietnam.
