Annakapelle stands within St. Mang’s Abbey in Füssen, combining a late Gothic structure with Bavarian Rococo decoration. Hildebrand Brandenburg establishes the chapel in 1505. He dedicates it to his mother, Anna Glock, while a late Gothic gravestone near the entrance commemorates Brandenburg. Hans Herlin creates that gravestone in 1515. The chapel’s history includes a first-floor library for manuscripts and incunabula donated by Brandenburg. Dominikus Zimmermann reshapes the interior between 1738 and 1741. He retains the square exterior, tented roof, and lantern, then fills the interior with frescoes, stucco, and sculptural detail. Johann Baptist Zimmermann supplies the frescoes and altar painting. The ceiling and lantern present faith, hope, charity, angels, and symbols of the Trinity. Anton Sturm provides the stucco saints. Barbara carries a chalice, Catherine holds a wheel and sword, Agatha bears a tray, and Ursula carries arrows and a martyr’s palm. Niches hold white-and-gold wooden statues. They represent Joseph, John the Baptist, Judas Thaddeus, and John the Evangelist. The carved altar frame includes the Christ Child. These furnishings connect remembrance, worship, learning, late Gothic forms, and Rococo design within the Benedictine abbey complex.
