Solarberg rises beside the Main-Danube Canal near Fürth, forming an artificial hill 348 metres above sea level. Walking paths, benches, and cycling links open broad views across the city and surrounding landscape.

The hill began as Fürth’s landfill, where more than 2.5 million cubic metres of waste accumulated. A clay seal now keeps landfill gas and water from passing through the ground. Methane from the site supplies electricity and heat to local households. A community-backed photovoltaic installation covers the southern slope and produces power for nearby homes.

Wild carrot and mullein grow among more than 250 plant species, while grazing sheep maintain the biotope. Annual religious services, including Ascension Day worship from St Matthäus Church, add a communal use to the reclaimed slope. Solar panels, flowering plants, and sheep now share ground that once held the city’s waste.
