# Stalburger Oede

Stalburger Oede, formerly Odenburg, is a medieval noble estate near Glauburgstraße in Frankfurt’s Nordend district. Its documented history reaches back to the early fifteenth century.

The former water castle included gardens, meadows, ponds and a vineyard, while defensive boundaries shaped its setting. Eckenheimer Landstraße and Oeder Weg bordered the estate.

A court purchase letter from 1415 provides its earliest recorded mention, although the site existed before then. Frankfurt patrician Claus Stalburg acquired it in 1498.

After a fire during the siege of Frankfurt in 1552, the building was restored and remained associated with the Stalburg family. The surviving building later received Baroque alterations.

Urban development in the nineteenth century levelled the surrounding grounds, filled the moat and preserved the historic structure within a courtyard. The outer walls of the historic building still survive today.

Since 1879, the building has housed the apple-wine tavern Zur Stalburg, with the former dance hall hosting Stalburg Theater performances since 1998.
