Ochsenturm stands in Frankfurt’s Höchst district as part of the surviving historic fortifications of Höchst am Main. The tower rises about fifteen metres above the ground. Rough natural stone forms its three storeys, while the lower section remains unplastered. An octagonal upper floor contains a tower room. The tower carries an octagonal slate tent roof with a copper pinnacle above it. Several upper windows remain bricked up. A narrow stone staircase inside the western Höchst city wall leads to the room, whose walls show simple historical scenes. Round tables, benches, chairs and display cases furnish the interior. The Ochsenturm likely began as a freestanding thirteenth-century watchtower before becoming part of the expanded city wall. The Main-side wall preserved the tower as flood protection until canalisation of the Main. The tower belongs to the garden of Neues Schloss and is not open to the public.
