Merianbad stands in Frankfurt’s Nordend as an octagonal historic building beside the former Wallanlagen. Built in 1887, the public bathhouse served residents whose homes rarely contained showers. Its design followed a model by Berlin hygiene specialist Oskar Lassar. Fourteen shower stalls filled the interior, with four for women and ten for men.

A heating boiler once supplied hot water from the centre, while drying rooms and a reservoir occupied the lantern above the tent roof. Between 150 and 200 people visited daily during its early years. Nearly 46,000 visitors used the bathhouse in 1895, and annual attendance still reached 61,000 in 1981. As private showers became common, monthly attendance fell to forty by 2000.

After closing as a bathhouse in the early 2000s, the protected building became the Kupferstecher café in 2005. Seven public shower stalls remain, although visitors rarely use them today. Frankfurt classics and Mediterranean-inspired dishes now accompany the preserved architecture.
