Justinuskirche stands at the eastern edge of Höchst’s old town, overlooking the Main River in Frankfurt. Its stone walls belong to one of Germany’s oldest surviving churches.

Construction began around 830 during the Carolingian period, after Archbishop Otgar brought Saint Justin’s relics from Rome. Rabanus Maurus completed the church around 850, creating a symbol of Mainz’s power near Frankfurt’s royal court. Carolingian capitals and stonework remain visible, while the late Gothic high choir and north doorway reflect changes made in 1441. Benedictine monks arrived in 1090, and the building later became a parish church before secularisation ended its monastic role in 1802. Continuous use for about 1,200 years connects its early medieval fabric with Catholic worship, weddings and concerts today.

The Main-side garden, created in the early 1990s, contains medicinal herbs associated with the Antonites. Public access runs from spring to autumn, and the church is wheelchair accessible.
