In Frankfurt’s Grüngürtel, Jupitersäule mit Grüngürteltier stands among paths where public art and nature meet. The sculpture rises near Tiroler Weiher, a pond surrounded by protected landscape.

Andreas Rohrbach created the work from red Main sandstone in 2011. Its relief recalls ancient Roman laurel leaves while also suggesting the scales of wild creatures. A golden Grüngürteltier crowns the column with a deliberately playful presence. The sculpture belongs to the Komische Kunst series along the Grüngürtel Rundwanderweg, where works by the Neue Frankfurter Schule combine humour with satire.

The creature recalls marksmen from federal troops who practised in this area during the nineteenth century. Tiroler Weiher was created in the 1950s to let Main river water seep into the ground. The nearby circular trail links this unusual column with other artworks across Frankfurt’s green belt.
