The Ebert-Denkmal is a bronze sculpture by Richard Scheibe beside the Paulskirche in Frankfurt. It commemorates Friedrich Ebert, Germany’s first Reich President.

Scheibe created a slender nude youth, an image interpreted as Germany rising from pain and confusion. The sculpture provoked debate at the church site.

The first casting appeared during the Weimar Republic’s Constitution Day celebrations. National Socialist authorities later removed the monument from the Paulskirche.

The original sculpture survived the war and threats of being melted down. A replacement casting returned to the Paulskirche after the war.

The stone base carries an inscription honouring Ebert’s contribution to parliamentary democracy during a turbulent period. The original remains in Frankfurt’s Historical Museum.

Scheibe’s restrained treatment of the human form gives the figure a concentrated presence beside the historic church. His work also reflects a focus on human expression and movement.

The monument connects sculpture, political memory, and Frankfurt’s twentieth-century history. Wheelchair access is recorded for this historic spot.
