Brunnen am Weißen Stein stands in Eschersheim, a district of Frankfurt, as a public fountain and war memorial. Local entrepreneur Gottfried Kleinschmidt commissioned the monument in 1910. Its memorial purpose recalls Eschersheim soldiers who fell during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870 to 1871. Shell limestone gives the fountain its structure and basin. Three square forms rise to 2.8 metres, while the structure measures 2.2 metres across. Sixteen water jets send water into the limestone basin.

A Hercules sculpture originally accompanied the fountain, disappeared during the Second World War, and returned after reconstruction in 2009. The fountain originally stood beside Eschersheim’s old schoolhouse. Construction of the Weißer Stein underground station moved it a few metres to its present position in the 1960s. Its front and side carry two memorial inscriptions. One inscription invokes God, king and fatherland, while the other identifies the donor and Eschersheim. The recorded site property includes wheelchair accessibility. Together, the stonework, water jets, reconstructed figure and inscriptions preserve several layers of Eschersheim’s public history.
