Bockenheimer Warte is a Gothic watchtower in Frankfurt, built as part of the medieval Landwehr defensive system. It marks Bockenheim, although it stands in the Westend district.

The tower guarded the trade route towards Cologne and helped Frankfurt detect approaching enemies. Its Gothic form remains a defining local landmark. The tower itself is not open to the public. It is recognised as a cultural monument under the Hessian Monument Protection Act.

The surrounding area includes the former university campus, the Johann Christian Senckenberg University Library, and Bockenheimer Depot. The depot now serves as a theatre venue. A weekly market takes place at the tower’s base.

Nearby, Bockenheimer Warte station has an entrance designed by architect Zbigniew Peter Pininski. The entrance resembles a tram car partly submerged in the pavement. Its surreal form draws inspiration from the artist René Magritte. The station remains recognisable for this unusual structure.

The Bockenheimer Warte is recorded as wheelchair accessible. Together, tower, market, library, theatre venue, and station connect Frankfurt’s defensive past with distinctive urban design.
