The Altes Volksbildungsheim stands in Frankfurt as a historic building whose preserved facade fronts the CineStar Metropolis cinema. Its architect, Wilhelm Helfrich, designed shops, a restaurant, a café, and large halls for events.

The Kaufmännische Verein opened the society house in 1908, before the First World War turned it into a military hospital. In 1919, it became the Volksbildungsheim, a centre for public education. That role brought educational events, concerts, social gatherings, and the public library beneath its roof. After the Nazis came to power, Kraft durch Freude repurposed the building. Second World War damage preceded partial restoration in the early 1950s.

The restored building later hosted the Landesbühne Rhein-Main, known as Theater am Turm, whose avant-garde performances gained fame. During the 1990s, the city sold it for redevelopment. The redevelopment created CineStar Metropolis in 2001 and retained the historic facade.
