Zur hohen Lilie stands in Erfurt as a historic Renaissance building with origins in the thirteenth century. Its present Renaissance form dates from the year 1538. A richly decorated portal carries a golden lily and the same year above it. The setting combines architecture with Erfurt’s long tradition of hospitality.

For centuries, the building served as a prestigious guesthouse for crowned heads and prominent visitors. Martin Luther supposedly stayed here in March 1522. King Gustav II Adolf of Sweden later lodged here during the Thirty Years’ War. World War II damaged the structure, which reconstruction restored in 1969. A renovation preceded its operation as Due Angeli with Italian cuisine in 2002. Since 2017, Hofbräu am Dom has served Bavarian specialities within a modern Bavarian interior.

A stone cellar vault retains historical features and gives the restaurant a distinct setting. The beer garden looks towards Erfurt Cathedral, while upper floors host events in historical surroundings.
