Sankt Severi is a Roman Catholic church on Cathedral Hill in Erfurt, beside St Mary’s Cathedral. Its unusual Gothic form anticipates the late Gothic hall church, while the five-aisled nave creates a striking interior space.

The site reaches back to the early Middle Ages, and the bones of Severus of Ravenna arrived in Erfurt in 836. A Romanesque basilica with three aisles, two transepts and two choirs preceded the High Gothic rebuilding that began in the late thirteenth century. The city fire of 1472 damaged the church, and restoration continued until around 1500, followed by additions including the sacristy and chapter house.

Inside, a Baroque high altar stands alongside a late Gothic Virgin Mary altar attributed to the Saalfeld School. A significant sarcophagus preserves the bones of the church’s patron, while wheelchair access makes this architectural landmark easier to experience.
